Flocked Christmas Tree Decorating Ideas
See a beautiful holiday mantel and white flocked Christmas tree decorated with wood bead garland, ribbon, and metallic ornaments.
When your 3, 6, and 8 year olds did most of the Christmas tree decorating and it actually feels photo worthy, you know you've hit a homerun. 😉
I took a poll on instagram this year, and there was a significant preference for green trees over flocked ones… but I decided to buck the system.
Actually, I used my green trees already at the ranch, and this just didn't feel like the right year to buy any more trees (surely 4 is enough?!?!). To be honest, though, I am so glad I went flocked in here. I love the softer feel and how it allows the mantel garland to shine.

But the real prize in this year's decorating was that with some really simple guidelines, I was honestly able to let my kids do most of the ornament placing (which they love). And I didn't even have to rearrange them (like I have done most years 😉 ) before taking pictures.

How to Decorate a Flocked Tree: 5 Easy Tips
White Christmas tree decorations can be simple and beautiful! Check out these 5 tips for decorating a tree the easy way with ribbons, ornaments, and more.
Fluff Fluff Fluff
Fluffing flocked trees feels a little funny and drops millions of little specs of flocking… But it's worth it. Fluff those babies as fully as you can so you can enjoy the soft texture of the flocked branches.
Add Simple Garland or Ribbon
For the big tree, I used some simple ivory satin ribbon I had. I just wove in around and through the branches. The silky satin against the soft flocking is such a pretty combination.
For the smaller tree, I used my DIY wood bead garland. Again, the contrast in textures is such a great start.

Choose a Rich Accent Ribbon
A rich velvet color is my favorite (this is the one I used this year, and it's gorgeous). There is something about the dark velvet against the white flocking that is simply stunning.
Since I had both trees basically in the same room, I wanted them to coordinate without totally matching. For the smaller tree, I just used some of the ribbon as a simple garland alongside the wood bead garland.

And for the big tree, I used the accent ribbon to make special ornaments. I paired them with these adorable little gold bells and tied long, draping bows for dramatic effect.
Go for Texture Rather than Color
I did add the dark green, but I almost don't count that as color since it blends so nicely with the actual greenery in the room. Other than that, we used all metallics and textures: pine cones, glitter, mercury glass, disco balls, and more.
I suggest that you vary the sizes and shapes, but no need for a formal theme. I even just used simple metallic ornaments as tree toppers.

Add Ornaments in Descending Sizes
The simplest way to spread out your various ornaments evenly (and this is where I can't believe how successful I was with my kids decorating!) is to start with the biggest ornaments and move down from there.
I used a few picks in the tall tree, so we started with those. I just told the kids to spread them out as much as possible.
Then I gave them the biggest ornaments…
And on down the list.
I mostly supervised and only had to tell them 3-4 times that they were putting some too close together. Overall, I think it made for some truly beautiful trees!
